Our Story.

Hey friends — I’m Jim, the hands, heart, and sawdust behind Rooted & Refined Woodcraft LLC.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved working with my hands. As a kid, I was the one building forts out of whatever I could find, tinkering with engines, or carving leather just to see what I could create. That love for making things never left — it just grew with me.
After nearly 30 years in a successful automotive career, life took an unexpected turn. I was suddenly let go — no warning, no poor reviews, nothing. It was devastating and honestly shook me to my core. But in the middle of the shock, something else showed up too… a sense of freedom. A quiet nudge that maybe this was the moment I was supposed to finally pursue the dream I’d carried since I was young: becoming an entrepreneur and building beautiful things for families.
And with a lot of prayer, and support from family and friends, I stepped into it.
Because I believe my mind and abilities were given to me by God — and I want to use them for His glory.
Today, I’m a single craftsman with a grown family, waking up early, keeping a clean shop (my only real “quirk”), and pouring everything I have into creating solid‑wood tables that will outlast me. No MDF. No veneers. No shortcuts. Just real wood, real craftsmanship, and real purpose.
My favorite part of every build is applying the finish! When that final coat goes on and the natural beauty of the wood comes alive — it still amazes me every time.
One of my favorite customer moments was when a gentleman came back for a second piece. I didn’t want to forego a sale but found I could no longer make that item for less than you could find it online, I told him honestly, “You can now find this cheaper online.”
He smiled and said, “I know. But I know the quality I’m getting from you — and that’s worth more than the price.”
That meant everything!
Every table I build is meant to become a gathering place — for meals, homework, late‑night talks, birthday candles, board games, and memories that last long after the chairs are pushed in.
I brand each piece with my logo as a quiet reminder: this was made with intention, integrity, and a whole lot of heart.
I build heirloom quality products that customers will have for generations. Not to chase riches, but to use my God given talents to build a legacy of craftsmanship in a world that often forgets the value of things made slowly, honestly, and by hand.
If you’re here, thank you.
If you’ve supported my work, thank you even more.
And if you ever invite one of my pieces into your home, my hope is that it brings warmth, peace, and the confidence that your investment was worth every penny — for generations to come.
